01-10-69 Girondins Bordeaux (Fra) 2-0 Dunfermline Athletic (Sco)
[Hervé Othily 19, Edouard Wojciak 88]
* This was a game which disgraced the name of French football.
Faced with a very weak referee, Bordeaux tried every dirty trick in the book to rattle a
Dunfermline side which refused to get involved. It was surprising that only two
Bordeaux players were booked, as the Brazilian Ruiter should have been sent off after
he appeared to strike and then spit in centre-half Doug Baillie's face. The Athletic had
to leave the stadium under the protection of the Gendarmerie, using a rear exit.
As the final whistle sounded, thousands of French supporters ran onto the pitch and the
players needed protection as they headed for the dressing rooms.
