Note: this tournament succeeds the Arab Champions' Cup and Arab Cup Winners' Cup.

Qualified as Champions' Cup holders: Al-Sadd (Qatar) - withdrew
Qualified as Cup Winners' Cup holders: Stade Tunisien
Qualified as hosts: MAS Fès (Morocco) 



Zone 1 (Gulf Area)

- Representatives: Al-Ahli (Bahrain), Al-Qadisiya (Kuwait), (UAE), (Oman)
- Was supposed to be played in Kuwait in October
- Khor (Qatar), UAE and Oman representatives withdrew
- Qualified: Al-Ahli (Bahrain), Al-Qadisiya (Kuwait)

Zone 2 (Red Sea)

- Representatives: Al-Ahli (Saudi Arabia), Zamalek (Egypt),
                   Al-Merreikh [Omdurman] (Sudan), Al-Ahli [Sana] (Yemen)
- Will be played in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) between 18/11 and 22/11
- No representatives from Djibouti, Somalia and Comoros Islands.
- Zamalek withdrew
- Two teams will qualify

- Representatives: FC Nouadhibou (Mauritania), Club Africain (Tunisia), 
                   Al-Olympique (Libya)
- No decision was taken for date of the this group.
- No representative from Algeria
- FC Nouadhibou withdrew, so Club Africain and Al-Olympique qualified

Zone 4 (East Region)

- Representatives: Al-Tadamon (Lebanon), Al-Aqsa (Palestine), 
                   Al-Hussein (Jordan), Al-Wahda (Syria)
- Matches were to be played in Syria in July 2002
- Al-Aqsa qualified directly to the finals due to difficulties to 
  participate in the qualifying matches
- Al-Tadamon withdrew, so Al-Wahda and Al-Hussein qualified



Final Stage (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia)

NB: the tournament was originally scheduled for August 18-31 in Morocco,
    hosted by MAS Fès.  It was then postponed to January 17-February 2,
    to be held in Fès and Casablanca, and finally moved to Jeddah.

WA Casablanca enter as Moroccan club chosen by organisers in October,
but could not enter the Jeddah tournament; they were replaced by
Al-Ittihad (Jeddah) as second club of the host country.
