NB: in 2001/02 the league will play with 12 teams; apart from Carlton and
Eastern Pride, who failed to complete their programme, also Canberra
Cosmos and Brisbane Strikers were kicked out, Canberra for 'doubts whether
they would remain a going concern' and Brisbane for 'not ranking high
enough among the nation's clubs'.
On July 4, Canberra and Brisbane were readmitted following a 'separate and
different exercise to the assessment process'. On September 26, Canberra
were kicked out again, on the grounds of a failure of the Cosmos to prove
their financial viability and the club's decision to release its guarantors
from their responsibilities in July.
