Spain - Final Tables Catalonia

The first clubs formed in Catalonia were Palamˇs CF (1898), CatalÓ SC (1899),
FC Barcelona (1899), HispÓnia AC (1900) and Soc. Espa˝ola F (currently RCD
Espanyol,1900).

In December 1900 Mr. Alfons Macaya, president of HispÓnia AC, offered a Trophy
to be played on a league basis by all the clubs. It has been officially
accepted as the first Catalan Championship.

It was the first official tournament played in Spain.

From 1903-04 a championship organized by the Football Associaciˇ de Catalunya
was played. It had many troubles in the first years, but was a real
professional league from 1917-18. The championship was disbanded in 1940,
because of the increasing importance of the Spanish Liga.
