Oceania Preliminary Competition for the U-17 World Cup 2003



Overview


Two groups of 6 teams in a round robin competition played at two 
different venues. The group winners will play each other home and 
away to find the winner.

It was agreed that the teams were not to be seeded in this 
qualifying tournament.

Papua New Guinea withdrew from Group A.

NB.The Solomon Islands Football Federation has said that because of 
some of the concerns raised by some of the national associations in 
Group B regarding Solomon Islands being the host country, they agreed 
to move the Group B tournament to the Sunshine Coast in Australia.


Oceania Qualification Play-off
------------------------------

New Caledonia was allowed, by the OFC, to advance to the playoff with 
the winner of Group B, despite their status as non-members of FIFA. 
In accordance with the tournament regulations, Soccer Australia and the 
Federation de Football Ligue de Nouvelle have agreed to stage both 
playoff matches in Noumea, New Caledonia.
