Teams from San José didn't participate from 1974 to 1976 when the league was separated from the Federación Departamental de Fútbol de San José.

From 1986 to 1989 the teams from the Interior Leagues played among themselves, and the winner played a match with the champion of the Capital League (San José city).

In 1994 two tournaments were played and then the winners played for the spot in the Copa El País 1995, Campana beat San Rafael.

In 1993 and in the first tournament of 1994 no team from San José participated.
