Uruguay - List of Women Champions (Montevideo)

On 14 Nov 1970, the Asociación Amateur de Fútbol Femenino (AAFA) was founded, which organised the first top level women's league in Uruguay, first contested in 1971 and won by Nacional, who won all tournaments until 1975. Only three more editions were played after that. Participants in the AAFA league tournaments included: Amazonas, Bella Vista (San José), Cerro Azul, Huracán (de Sarandí), Iriarte, Las Albas, Las Charrúas, Las Estrellas (Santa Lucía), Las Rebeldes (Florida), Lomas de Zamora FC, Nacional, Pampero FC, Paso de los Toros (Tacuarembó), Peñarol, River Plate (San José), San Lorenzo (San José) and Santiago Vázquez.
Early in 1996, the Asociación Uruguaya de Fútbol formed a commision to organise women's football within the association. The first official women's tournament of the AUF started on 27 Oct 1996, and was contested by Rampla Juniors (winners), Cerro (runners-up), Liverpool, Basáñez, River Plate, Danubio and Bella Vista; however, it was a 5-a-side competition and so is not listed below.
