Gouverneur van Slobbe Beker

The Gouverneur van Slobbe Beker was offered by the gouverneur van Curaçao, B.W.Th. van Slobbe, on the occasion of the first ever visit of Surinam to the island in 1934.
Due to a misunderstanding the impression was created that it would be offered to the winners of the third match of the 1934 series between Curaçao and Surinam, but in fact the offer had been to award a trophy for future mutual visits, intended to be on an annual basis.
Thus, the trophy was first played for at the 1935 return visit of Curaçao to Paramaribo, in the second match of the three-match series organised there. An intended visit of Surinam to Willemstad in October 1936 was cancelled due to financial problems, and eventually postponed to 1938, at which occasion the trophy was again on offer at the second match of a three-match series. Finally, it was played for a third time in 1944, in Paramaribo, at a match which was part of a triangular tournament also involving Aruba.
