Chatham Cup 1970

The structure of the Chatham Cup was altered in 1970. The traditional
North and South Island finals were replaced. The draw became slightly
more open and the survivors among the the provincial winners were
matched against the National League teams. The changes brought:

- the first Cup match in the North Island between North and South Island
clubs, in anything but the final (Wanganui Athletic v Nelson United)

- the first North Island team to play a Chatham Cup match in Christchurch
  (Western Suburbs v New Brighton)

- the first North Island team to play a Chatham Cup match in Dunedin
  (Stop Out v Caversham)

- the first final between two North Island teams
